During the COVID lockdowns, my kids and I stumbled across a little photography project that ended up becoming one of my favourite things we've ever done together.

We'd raid the toy box, choose a few unsuspecting characters, then get down on the floor and photographed them from their perspective. A simple change in viewpoint suddenly made them feel alive. A plastic dinosaur became a huge beast. A tiny Star Wars action figure became a hero. Everyday objects transformed into entire worlds. When we were allowed outside (society was strange back then) that’s when our photography went up a notch.

There were no rules, no expensive props and no grand plan. It was simply about imagination, storytelling and having fun with a camera.

Like many projects, life got in the way and it quietly disappeared for a few years. Recently though, my son and I dusted off the toys, picked up the cameras and carried on exactly where we left off. I'd forgotten just how much fun it is.

This gallery is a collection of those adventures. Hopefully they'll remind you that photography doesn't always have to be serious. Sometimes all it takes is getting down to a different level and letting your imagination do the rest.
